Marshall Mountain is Missoula's downhill and enduro mountain biking hub. Built on the old Marshall Mountain ski area, this trail system features purpose-built downhill trails, flow trails, and technical descents that attract riders from across Montana.
The History
Marshall Mountain operated as a small ski area from the 1950s through the early 2000s. After the ski area closed, the Five Valleys Mountain Bike Association and local volunteers transformed the mountain into a mountain biking destination.
Lift-Accessed Riding
On summer weekends, a shuttle service runs from the base to the summit, giving riders lift-accessed downhill runs without the long climb.
Popular Trails
Z Trail is the mountain's signature flow trail, featuring berms, rollers, and small jumps through the forest. Pony Express offers a more technical ride with rock gardens and steep sections.
Skill Levels
Marshall Mountain has trails for intermediate to expert riders. The flow trails are accessible to confident intermediates, while the technical trails require advanced skills.
Season and Hours
The shuttle service typically runs from June through September, on Saturdays and Sundays. Check the FVMBA website for current hours and pricing.
